Job Description:

As a Storyteller, your role will be to captivate and engage audiences through the power of storytelling. You will weave narratives, transport listeners to different worlds, and evoke emotions through your words. This role requires a deep understanding of various storytelling techniques, strong communication skills, and a passion for connecting with people through stories.

Responsibilities:

Story Creation: Develop original stories, adapting existing tales, or interpreting narratives based on the audience and context. Craft compelling characters, engaging plots, and vibrant settings that resonate with the target audience.

Performances: Deliver captivating storytelling performances at various venues, such as schools, libraries, festivals, community events, and corporate gatherings. Engage listeners of all ages by utilizing voice modulation, gestures, and facial expressions to enhance the storytelling experience.

Audience Interaction: Foster an interactive and participatory environment during storytelling sessions. Encourage audience engagement through questions, prompts, or interactive elements that enhance the immersion and connection with the story.

Research and Preparation: Conduct thorough research on storytelling traditions, folklore, myths, and literary works to enrich your repertoire. Prepare and rehearse stories, ensuring a seamless and captivating delivery.

Adaptation and Flexibility: Adapt stories to suit different age groups, cultural backgrounds, and event themes. Modify storytelling techniques and content to accommodate diverse audiences and venues.

Collaborate with Event Organizers: Coordinate with event organizers, schools, or institutions to understand their requirements, themes, and expectations. Collaborate with other performers, musicians, or artists to create unique storytelling experiences.

Educational Programs: Develop and deliver storytelling programs that promote literacy, creativity, cultural appreciation, and social awareness. Design workshops, activities, and discussion sessions to engage participants and foster a love for storytelling.

Storytelling Resources: Maintain a collection of storytelling resources, including books, recordings, props, and visual aids, to enhance the storytelling experience. Continuously explore new storytelling mediums and technologies to enhance engagement.

Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with marketing teams to promote storytelling events through various channels, such as social media, websites, newsletters, and local media. Participate in interviews, podcasts, and other media opportunities to raise awareness about the importance of storytelling.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a storyteller, either in live performances, digital media, or written formats.
  • Exceptional oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in adapting stories for diverse audiences, age groups, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Deep knowledge of storytelling traditions, folklore, and literary works.
  • Strong creativity and imagination to craft engaging and original stories.
  • Ability to connect with listeners, evoke emotions, and maintain audience engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with event organizers, artists, and participants.
  • Familiarity with educational principles and techniques to create enriching programs.
  • Resourcefulness in utilizing various storytelling mediums and technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in literature, performing arts, education, or a related field (preferred).

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
